Polaris Industries will be expanding its recall of
all-terrain vehicles. Apparently, some of these vehicles have defective control
modules that can overheat and cause fire and burn hazards to their riders.
The recall was originally announced in February of 2008 and
involves the Polaris ATVs with model years 2004. The defective ATVs were sold
under the market names Scrambler 500 and Sportsman 400, 500, or 6×6. The model
number is usually displayed by a decal on the body of the machine.
Consumers are advised to disconnect the negative battery
cable from the battery when the ATV is not in use. Consumers are told to
contact their local Polaris dealers to schedule free repairs. For more
