A Harris County court found Laurie Williamson guilty of injury to child today. According to prosecutors, Williamson subjected her son to at least two surgeries that he did not need. Williamson could be facing life in prison. Jurors will be meeting through next week before determining her punishment.

When events as tragic is this happen, often the first question that comes to mind is: How could a mother do something like this?

Laurie Williamson is claimed to have Munchausen syndrome by proxy, an extremely rare disorder whereby a person lies about or induces symptoms in others to gain attention. Prosecutor Mike Trent said Williamson manipulated the doctors and the condition of her child in order to have the surgeries performed. Was it malicious intent or a bizarre disorder that drove Williamson to have her son placed on a feeding tube?

Child abuse is a serious crime. If you suspect that your child has suffered abuse or neglect at day care, notify your local child services organization immediately and contact a Day Care Abuse Attorney.
