A notification went out this week to about 40,000 patients of a Las Vegas health clinic, alerting them that the clinic had been reusing syringes and medication vials in an effort to cut costs. Patients who visited the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada from March 2004 through Januray 2008 are urged to get tested for HIV and Hepatitis B and C.

The notification was sent as a result of an investigation of the clinic that began in Januray after health officials noticed an increase in Hepatitis C cases at the clinic. According to the Associated Press article, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) count 14 hepatitis outbreaks in the U.S. linked to bad injection practices since 1999.
