The FDA has issued a warning regarding several weight loss products that are being sold online. The agency is currently warning consumers not to purchase these products because they might actually contain undeclared, active pharmaceutical ingredients.

These weight loss products are marketed as dietary supplements in many cases and are promoted and sold on various web sites and in retail stores. Some of these products claim to contain only natural or herbal ingredients, however, they might actually have harmful elements that are not listed on the labels.

NOTE: These products ARE NOT approved by the FDA, are in fact illegal, and might be potentially harmful to consumers. Some of the products that the FDA has listed include:

2 Day Diet

3x Slimming Power

3 Day Japan Lingzhi

999 Fitness Essence

Perfect Slim 5x

Venom Hyperdrive 3.0

An analysis conducted by the FDA found that the active ingredients in some of these products included sibutramine (a controlled substance), phenytoin (an anti seizure medication) and even a suspected cancer causing agent called phenolphthalein. The FDA says that these products are putting consumers at undue risk. Sibutramine, for instance, is associated with seizures, trachycardia, heart attack and stroke. This drug can also interact with other medications and increase the risk of side effects.
