Around 3 p.m. today, a cement mixer travelling on southbound Highway 183 crashed through the median, flipped into the northbound traffic, struck a motorcycle and landed on top of a red SUV.
The red sport utility vehicle’s 41-year-old-driver was killed and a 6-year-old passenger remains in critical condition in the hospital. The motorcyclist and cement truck driver are reportedly in serious condition.
It is thought that the northbound lanes will remain shut down through early evening to clear the wreckage. It took over an hour before Dallas firefighters could move the flattened SUV out from underneath the cement mixer – when two wreckers were finally able to lift the truck off the wreck.
Details regarding why the cement truck soared across the median and caused this accident have not been released. That said, too many people are injured or killed each year as a result of accidents involving large trucks. And often – the victims and their families do not receive the justice they deserve regarding their emotional and physical losses. If you have been injured in a motor vehicle or motorcycle accident as the result of a truck driver’s negligence, contact an accident attorney to discuss your legal options.
